A Rape Victim in the DRC
"Your willingness to recognize my humanity has given voice to my distress and meaning to my pain."
This document tells the story of the rape victim Honorata. Honorata was a sex slave in the Congo for almost a whole year. In the year 2002 she was taken by armed militias, they gang raped her and humiliated her. When Honorata finally escaped she had no were to go so she walked 150 miles with no food and no shoes to Bakavu. After all this Honorata went to help other rape victims in the Congo. This just proves that there is always ways to help no matter what.
"It was in 2002 that the world turned up side down and Honorata lost the signs of a "true and nice life" that she and her husband had built. She was captured and tortured by the armed militias. She was gang raped, sexually abused, forced to endure unimaginable humilities. Honorata's days blended into one another until the moment another marauding band stormed the camp. In the confusion, she escaped."
